Rescue Roadtrip: How One Beagle Family Found Safety Across State Lines

In the world of animal rescue, there are days that test the limits of our resources and resolve. With a constant influx of intake requests and an ever-growing need for foster homes, the task often feels overwhelming. However, some stories stand out and remind us why we do what we do. This is one such story.

On April 27th, a small but mighty momma Beagle gave birth outside, all alone. By morning, this brave little family was living in a grape box beside a busy road, the momma allowed to wander dangerously close to traffic. A Good Samaritan took the little family in and reached out to a K9 Rouge Rescue contact for help.

An Urgent Call for Help

Living on a busy road with little care, the mother and her pups were in immediate danger. Desperate to save them, K9 Rouge Rescue reached out to us at Triangle Beagle Rescue (TBR) with a plea for help. “We are currently full,” she explained, “and have 3 momma dogs with babies along with so many others in our rescue. We’re just a small rescue. Louisiana is one of the worst for overcrowding! Can you take them?” Of course, our TBR intake coordinator could not say no! So in the blink of an eye they became TBR beagles, now they had a long journey to North Carolina ahead of them.

A Temporary Safe Haven

By May 8th, a photo of the Beagle and her four tiny pups caught the attention of the rescue network. The little family, nestled in a grape box, needed a temporary foster in Louisiana until transport could be arranged to North Carolina. Despite being strangers to TBR, a kind-hearted couple stepped up without hesitation.

The pups, just over a week old, were not even able to open their eyes yet. Momma Beagle, named Sweet Jubilee, displayed a hearty appetite, and doted on her babies, who were eager to nurse. The couple transformed their office into a quiet nursery, ensuring Jubilee and her pups had a safe, calm environment. They provided the utmost care, feeding momma to her heart’s content and keeping the puppies’ bed clean and cozy.

The Journey to North Carolina

After just over a week with their temporary foster family, it was time for Sweet Jubilee and her grape-themed pups to embark on the next leg of their journey. Seven volunteer drivers helped get them safely to their loving foster home in North Carolina.

Debbie, the foster mom, had bonded deeply with Jubilee and her babies — all named after types of grapes as they made their home in a grape box — three males named Moon Drop, Pinot, and Shiraz, and a little female named Cotton Candy. Saying goodbye was bittersweet, but knowing they were headed to a loving foster home in North Carolina brought solace.

A Bright Future Ahead

Tonight, Jubilee and her pups are safe in a TBR foster home safe and sound! To everyone who played a part in this rescue and all our supporters — thank you. You’ve given this little family a chance at a new life, and for that, we are forever grateful.
