Beers for Beagles
Joseph Wheeler helps put the “beer” in our Beers for Beagles Event!
Beers for Beagles, one of Triangle Beagle Rescue’s biggest fundraisers of the year, is happening on April 22nd from 1–4 PM at Lonerider in Raleigh. To discuss the “Beer” in Beers for Beagles, we caught up with one of Lonerider’s brewers, Joseph Wheeler.
Joseph’s involvement with Triangle Beagle Rescue (TBR) started when he considered adopting Spanky, a beagle who his friends Derek and Leann were fostering. However, Spanky’s curiosity towards Joseph’s cat led to some beagle antics that made Joseph realize Spanky was not a good fit. Nonetheless, Joseph and his wife went on to adopt two other dogs from TBR and have been actively supporting the organization ever since.
Joseph has been creating specialty beers for Beers for Beagles since its inception in 2015, and his personal connection to TBR inspired him to incorporate a dog theme into the beer. This year, Joseph is brewing an amber ale instead of their famous Peanut Butter Josie to change things up. The White Tipped Tail Ale recipe was finalized six weeks ago, brewed on April 3rd, and will be ready for packaging on April 21st, just in time for Beers for Beagles on April 22nd!
Joseph is thrilled that a small idea among friends has grown into an event that supports a great cause and draws attention to a local brewery.
